Few modern British sportsmen have fascinated the public more than Geoffrey Boycott. A record-breaking Test cricketer and acerbic commentator, Boycott has never been far from controversy during his long career in the game. From highlights like his hundredth century at Headingley against Australia in 1977 to low points such as the squalid court case in France in 1998, his has been a dramatic roller-coaster of a life lived in the public eye. Boycs: The True Story provides the first comprehensive and balanced account of Boycott's life. Based on meticulous research and interviews with a host of players, Test captains, officials, broadcasters, friends - and some enemies - Leo McKinstry cuts through the Boycott mythology to expose the truth about his charismatic, single-minded and often exasperating personality. Unique testimony from Boycott's relatives and colleagues provides answers to a wide range of intriguing questions: What was Boycott like as a child and a schoolboy? What do his fellow commentators think of him? How did England's opening batsmen Graham Gooch, Dennis Amiss and Bob Barber feel about batting with him? Does he really have such a vicious temper? Why has he always been such a loner on tour? Tracing Boycott's life from his origins as a miner's son in the village of Fitzwilliam to his present status as international celebrity. Boycs: The True Story lifts the lid on one of cricket's great enigmatic characters.
