I would like to get your views regarding Pathan. It is clear that his bowling is no longer threatning. His shoulders seem to have dropped, he is perhaps not enjoying. What is the problem?
Because of his good batting performance, he feel perssure of all-rounder and he mostly consider good batting and he forgot his bowling skill. He lost his speed and swing as well as confidance. But i am sure one good series will boosted his confidance.
I think Pathan should be rested and he should play now domestic cricket to improve his performance. He is a great player, he will come back. But for this unwanted experiments we lost one of our stike bowlers. Pathan is in awful form now. He is being thrown all over the park by junior players now. God forbid, if he finds himself against Hayden, Gilchrist that will make a lot of damage to him.
Pathan needs rest from the national team, in a county cricket type enviroment where he can bowl, and only bowl. I fear he has cracked somewhat under International pressure and the pressure for his place. He needs to get away from it all and sort his head out.
Also i exspect since his batting has come along nicely he is confused about weather to become a batter who bowls or vise versa
In the ODIs his position is secure as he makes the team on batting alone. When he regains his form (it will be opneing the bowling when the ball swings most) he will be the most destructive all rounder in the world at ODIs if he can regain his form from a year back. In tests his position is not assured as specialists predominate and he is not good enough to play as a specialist bat YET and his bowling is off form. I honestly believe however that once he picks up some wickets in a match he will regain his confidence and form. He went through a similar patch a year and a half ago, where he lost his ability to inswing the ball, but he went to English county cricket and then returned better than ever. Maybe that is the answer but he should be retained for the ODI series but told to book his test game up - something he will do playing week in week out in four day games and bowling long spells as the main man in the team, with the emphasis on him to provide the breakthroughs at county level.
well the guy seems to be back in form (india-vs-england). i guess sometimes we all have our bad days and just need time-off. maybe he was facing some personal problems or something. dravid/chappel have been fair...he wasn't performing and they gave him his time-off but it doesn't mean he has turned rotten. guess the phase it over and he's back to his normal self and the team still needs him.
