Before anyone gets too excited, I think Waugh said he was the best Australian batsman since Bradman, not the best since Bradman. Also I think his weakness against spin bowling takes him out of the top bracket.
Ponting is exceptional. Poeple dont like giving him a lot of credit but he really is right up there with Tendulkar, Lara, Dravid and Inzamam. In fact I think he is probably second only to Lara. The amount of runs he has scored so far is ridiculous. And he scores them quickly as well. I dunno about Bradman, but he is the modern day Viv Richards. Certainly not as good, but surely among the best ever that Aus has produced. Has the real weakness and plays all forms of bowling remarkably well.
Put every batsman in the bull ring together and let them face the same attack. Dravid recently did a great job of sending Tendulkar and Lara together in the 10 over game against Pakistan.
I still remember watching Ponting's debut live. I think stuart law made debut in that match. But i was not a big fan of either of them. I was a big fan of Greg Blewett for his stylish onside play. He was a delightful player to watch. Who can forget his 214 in Johannesburg where he reeled of some sensational shots against Donald & Co. His vulnerability against spin spelled doom for him.
