Team India has finally left Indian shores for a winter like chill, perhaps a touch too low for their liking. But while Ireland seems an unlikely venue, the opponents are on. India take on South Africa in three one day internationals and followed up by a one off game against Pakistan.
Whether the level of competition can be judged by the Afro Asian games where the Asian team was more Indian and the South African team compromising most of the African team, the duel will perhaps be sharpened from the rather frivolous nature of the previous tournament.
Technically, an oft repeated cliche in itself, India should have a better run in given their batting line up. But put the bowling on the line and the best word that would describe the attack would be surprise. Only surprisingly stupendous performances by the bowlers can make an even keel of this match. Unless both departments click together, India may just find South Africa too close to comfort and their liking.
Against Pakistan, who knows? With Pakistan dealing with a change of guard themselves, the neighbourly rivals are in a similar boat seeking a coach who can change their fortunes. Neither met their date with destiny at the World Cup, and this may be the match where fans who went home without a skirmish look to the teams to make amends for their mishap. Will their meeting be like a World Cup? Doubt it. Will it hold the same amount of interest as battles like these usually do? Public sentiment is not exactly roaring hoarse.
