Lord's will finally see India bring the battle of the dressing room to a final battle on the field. For long, speculation of the final eleven has dogged the Indian think tank. Even the two highly anticipated warm up matches failed to provide any substantial information on any of the players. The toss up between bowlers has been a virtual no contest while Yuvraj Singh has to sit out with first preference being given to V.V.S. Laxman.
The only thing that has perhaps been revealed a touch too early is that Sachin Tendulkar looks to be in good touch. While the Indian team would like to assert that it is the ominous sign of coming times, most opposition would watch him carefully for signs to break down his game and rhythm in the Tests. Unfortunately, England go into the first Test with problems of their own. Not only has Andrew Flintoff become unavailable, Steve Harmison's problems were too acute to aid England. Now in an eleventh hour blow (or near one), this looks to be a battle of who holds the edge as Matthew Hoggard has also been ruled out. It seems that this will not be a case of good batsmen versus teasing bowlers. Rather this will be a race of attrition, but it will have to be a very patient one. There is no margin for error, with each team looking for easy quarters! |
