So, after much mayhem over a hot, not to mention sweltering, summer, The Indian cricket board has finally narrowed down on Graham Ford. But then, it hardly came as a surprise. It seemed, for all effective purposes, John Emburey just stood to be counted. With no experience on the international field, it was hardly a matter of choice for the board to decide between the two. With Ford having briefly been a part of the South African management as coach, it only pointed in one direction.
With no local contenders in the fray, even the excitement of a foreign hand yet again died down after the much hoppla and blame game about publicly and unofficially annointing Dav Whatmore to the post and then, not so subtly bringing him down.
Ford though may seem like the quiet man behind the scene. It remains to be seen how much of a middle ground he can hold between being a man-behind-the-scene kind of coach akin to Wright and more scathing like Chappell. Rest assured, it will be a new brand of coaching style and Ford is that name. What remains to be observed as well is if Ford can do for India what being SOuth Africa's coach did not do -put the team and him in the spotlight!
