I think he is one of the best overall batsman, but difficult to call him the best in either forms individually, there are cricketers who are better than him in one form or the other.
at the moment i think its got to be Kevin Pietersen,

Sanath Jayasuriya,
Gilchrist
Matthew Hayden
Viv & Tendulkar are undoubtedly the no. 1 & no. 2 respectively. Viv averaged 47 at a strike rate of 90, Tendu isnt too bad at an avg of 44 at a strike rate of 85
No he is not in the top 4 in my opinion, only his recent form has put him up for contention. At this point Gilchrist, Hayden and Mike Hussey are ahead of him, if his recent form continues then he would be in contention.
