When the Australians celebrated they were accused of being
"unsportsmanlike" and "over celebrating". When Ricky Ponting was given LBW
to Harbajan by umpire Benson after it clearly hit his bat before hitting
his pad, did he stay and argue or did he walk? Did Anil Kumble say "your
not out Ricky, come back and finish you innings"? Did Harbajan call him
back or did he do an over exuberant double ground roll to celebrate? Was
the Indian celebrations after they won the inaugural Twenty20 cup
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdZw5N-yoNc) subdued? If you truly want
see overly enthusiastic celebration you have to go to a game in India.

When Australia lost the close and epic 2005 Ashes series in England, did
they carry on like petulant children or did they congratulate the English
team and say "the best team won"? When India lost to Bangladesh in the
recent ODI World Cup did they praise the opposition or did they criticise
their own players and blame their Australian coach? If India wants to
learn how to accept defeat they should look at the dignified manner in
which the Australians behaved after they lost the 2005 Ashes.

But this is not an issue of poor umpiring, this is not an issue of
unsportsmanlike behaviour. This is an issue of racism, and its the Indians
who are being racist. When Shilpa Shetty was called "Miss Papadum" by an
English girl on UK's Big Brother was that an act of humour or an
unspeakable act of racism? A few effigies of young English lasses were
burnt over that comment. When Herchelle Gibbs was suspended for two test
for calling some Pakistani supporters a "bunch of monkeys" was that an
harsh sentence or did the Indian Cricket Board support the ICCs sentence?
When 40,000 Indians were chanting "Symonds is a Monkey"
was that an act of humour or an act of racism? I have yet to hear a single
Indian say that calling Symonds a monkey is unacceptable behaviour. There
has been no leadership from the Indian Cricket Board on this issue.

The only thing Ricky Ponting has done is to stand up in the fight against
racism. Its not just one incident that happened on the SCG after the 116th
over of the Indians first innings its a series of incidents going back to
October last year. Ponting has the high moral ground.

So to India I say "Racism is wrong, all forms of racism so spare us the
hypocrisy".

couldnt of been said any betta congrats of a very thoughtful piece of writing it would appear that the indians really are not taking the issue and looking at it in a wider perspective and are forgetting all their wrong doing over the years

here here, Australian team has done no wrong. If India had of won the match there would not have been any problem. Bucknor had a bad day, it happens , it will happen again.

Even when the bodyline series was played there wasn't such an issue.

India has made no attempts to eradicate it's patrons from making monkey chants from their host arena's.

INDIA OUT OF WORLD CRICKET.

Well said.

India are unprofessional, racist, immature and unfortunately struggle to win.

Australia is able to cop being defeated (on the rare occasion it actually happens).

It's so funny watching Indians act like children.

Nice to see a cool head amongst these forums ImpartialBrit.

However, the Aussies aren't lilly white. They must be the world champions at sledging, and sometimes they probably do go too far.

A better response to sledging is to ignore it, if sledging or racial comments have no noticiable effect then they'll drop from the cricketer's repitoire.

Dear ImpartialBrit, you are right on target. Let me be the first Indian to say that calling Symonds or anyone a monkey is unacceptable behavior. In fact, I would say that so is making a suggestion that he should go and look at his mother's nether regions.

How about making a train sound knowing that the batsman lost a family member in a train accident. Or, claiming to have sired the batsman's children. Or, suggesting that the fielding side had slept with a batsman's all the female relatives...

So where do we draw the line, the learned one? Where does an honest sledge end and putrid racial villification begin, the Impartial Master? Pray educate the ignorant natives; show us the light, oh Divine one!

That bhajji is the one who brings all this controversy to the game (and ultimately, gives a bad impression about Indians to the ROTW). I hope he never gets to play again.

Currymuncher, you are a first class fu*kwit. Chris Cairns was asked about the alleged sledge regarding his sister and her death in a train crash. HE DENIED THE AUSTRALIANS HAD EVER STOOPED SO LOW AND WAS 100% sure they never would. Support your statement with PROOF. That's too hard for you and the average Indian "cricket supporter". What a frustrated ladyboy you are. What's wrong with sledging? It's ok to burn other countries flags and pictures attached to mannequins.
AT LEAST YOU ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS IN THAT REGARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a pathetic bunch of losers you are. World champions in nothing of note, filthy and unhygenic country that you live in, barbarous practices like suttee and arranged marriages and let's not mention THE BARBED WIRE FENCES AROUND EVERY CRICKET GROUND.
Do you bath in the Ganges? We have cleaner sewers here you filthy, small minded individual.
