When the West indies beat Aus by 17 runs in the World Cup final at lords in 1975 (thanks to Clive Lloyd's 102), there was instant bedlam on the pitch as spectators celebrated. in all the chaos, poor Dickie Bird lost his distinctive white cap, which was swiped from his head as he tried to reach the pavillion

A few days later, Bird was travelling on a double decker across London when he noticed the West indian conductor was wearing a familiar-looking cap.
"Excuse me," said dickie, "but where did you get that cap from?"
Quick as a flash the conductor replied, "have you heard of Dickie Bird, th Test umpire? he's my friend, he gave it to me"
