It's not all doom and gloom for England just yet after Ponting didn't enforce the follow on. It could be virtually all over now but there is a very small outside chance that we could bat out the match and claim an undeserving draw.
The problem is that England only have two batsmen really capable of taking the game to the Aussies. There's Pietersen and then Strauss to a lesser extent.
Bell, Collingwood and Cook are accumulators (they have too many of those) and Flintoff bats too low to count. That's why England are really missing the likes of Vaughan and Trescothick.
They'll need a rethink soon enough. Perhaps move Pietersen up to 4 even with the greater risk of a newer ball I think the benefit outweighs the cost.
I do consider not enforcing the follow-on a negative move. That's one right from the Ponting books.
They were just mentioning that on Channel 9 commentary - one of Cook, Collywobble, KP or Freddie will have to put in a huge effort and bat for about 10 hours or so. VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid did it in Kolkata.
