When the last Ashes series was played England pace/swing/seam bowling attack dominated proceedings over the Aussies.

Hoggard utilzied the new ball very well because it swung around and he took vital wickets early on. Both Flintoff and simon jones the exploited the use of reverse swing with quite damaging effect and made vital breakthrus. The conditions in england and the ball moving around early on and late on in inns was huge benfical factor for England.

The problem for england bowlers (mamy bowlers round world have had similar problems as well) is the 1st test in Australia the new ball hasnt really swung to much (it did slightly in 1st inns with 2nd new ball) and that has effected Hoggard and Anderson as both depend alot on swing. As the ball has got older it hasnt really roughened up much and theres not been a sight of reverse swing for Englands bowlers.

Without natural swing or reverse swing englands attack has looked very one dimensional and if conditions are like this all Aussie summer england could be in trouble when it comes to try to bowl Aussies out cheaply once or even twice.

So are england depending to much on swing when it comes to bowling?

Well Hoggard and Anderson, who are swing bowlers, do depend on swing to take wickets, but Flintoff, Harmission and Sajid probably not so much. So overall they not depend on natural swing.

I think the ball generally do not swing much in Australia like it does in England and in New Zeland. The weather in Australia is different. So England bowlers should use the pitch in a better way.
