Crystal Ball - Will IPL change cricket as we know it?

Make no mistake, IPL is going to change the face of cricket. In 5 years we are going to look back and remember the "old days" that cricket is now. Often people talk about change in terms of it being a bad thing. Sometimes this is true, but i dont think it will be true of IPL.

IPL will force cricket to change for the better. It will provide an exciting alternative to the current formats. It will revitalise a sport that has become a bit stale in recent years due to the utter dominance of the Australian team.

It will introduce new fans to the game. To those that are uninitiated, they often think cricket now is "boring" and "too long". But by offering up the unadulterated excitement of big hitting, and action packed matches that only have a 3 hour duration, many of these objections will fade away.

IPL will also drag cricket into the big time in terms of money and commercialisation. More money for players & teams, more sponsorship and television deals. All this means more money flowing through the game, meaning a more professional spectacle for the fans. The quality of the game itself will improve.

Finally, and possibly the biggest predicted effect of IPL, will be that India will rise to the top of international ranks. Australia may currently dominate, but the reality is that IPL will be an incredible breeding ground for young Indian players. It will provide an incredible platform for young Indian cricketers to excel. Youngsters who gain an opportunity playing for an IPL franchise will be exposed to the best coaches, the best methods and most importantly, will have the chance to play alongside the very best players in the world. With those opportunities and the incredible national talent in India, it is hard to imagine how they will not rise to the top.

Perhaps if this happens in 5 years, people will look back at the retirement of many of the Australian stalwarts. Sure, Australia has had the benefit of a "team of a generation" and a gaping hole will exist when the bulk of them retire. But make no mistake, IPL will mean young Indian players have the chance to develop faster than they do now, and probably better than any other youth talent program in the world.

Anyway you look at it, IPL will be a vehicle of change on the cricketing world. I am hoping and expecting that it will be for the positive.

You fail to realise that no matter how much coaching or money you bring to the table you can't teach talent- india will not dominate cricket like australia- australia is the best sporting nation in the world-look how many teams we have that have been world champions or are world champions look at the indivdual champions we have- india will not be as good as australia this is your attempt to take over cricket but i hope it falls over- i much prefer to see england the west indies or south africa become world number 1 then the shifty, not walk from the crease ball tampering indian team

India is kidding themselves......the games bigger and been around longer, IPL will be lucky to last 10 years....if it does it will fill it's neche and that's about it.....i wouldn't worry about International cricket between Aust,S Africa.....you still have to come here to beat us in Test series before anyone is going to give a s***....

even if IPL does go ok.....no doubt it will move to Australia and England and so on.....if it's that popular it wont last in India....why would you play there when you could play the same thing in Australia..give the world cricketers their choice and they wouldn't go to India/Zimbawe/Bangladesh/Pakistan at all......those places are full of f**king pigs.

The reason they play it in India, could be something to do with the fact that they are investing billions into the league. Rolling Eyes

So, I don't think they will play IPL in England or Australia.

no maybe not IPL but the same thing.....as we have found alot of international sportsmen give up $$$ internationally just to live here...we could've done this years ago with our first class state cricket but we don't want international players playing in our domestic series.....unlike India we don't have to buy talent from overseas to for it to be first class....but what is it a 10 week 20/20 comp.....ya f**king kidding yourselves if you think your going to take over the game with that.....alot of these 20/20 super 8 or whatever concepts only arise due to not being able to beat Australia in the way the game is normally played, that and to fill the appetite of the corrupt Sub continent teams, or poor countries anyway....we'll dominate 20/20 like all other forms of the game and then you'll try to think of another way to win by messing with rules etc....

Yeah Aussie rules... We're the best sporting nation in the whole white world... Sooks from poor sub-continental countries can never compete with us... If they ever try to stand up to us, we'd trap them into calling us by our true names and then blame them for racism.. Oz Oz Oz Oi Oi Oi

True, international cricketers will decide against coming to the subcontinent. But it's their personal choice, and we should respect it. Just as we respect Aussies playing for silly cricketing tourneys like IPL.

Just for the info. here is a list of Aussie cricketers and their respective teams in IPL
