shudnt have been given to him neways. the rules state that it is a own goal if the ball was missing the target and deflects of the player into his own goal. according to the rules the post is not counted as part of the target which is the BACK of the net... at the end of matches wen they show shots on target, off target etc.. and shots that hit the woodwork are not counted as off target.... thus rooney's shot hit the post wich is off target then hit the keeper's head and went on target. therefore and OWN goal.
