LONDON: Sania Mirza made a winning start to her Wimbledon campaign beating Japan's Akiko Morigami in three sets to move into the second round at the All England Tennis Club here today.

Sania, ranked 75th in the latest ranking list, beat Morigami, ranked four places above her, 6-3 3-6 8-6 in the opening match on Court 17 in nearly two hours.

i wish her all the best.

she seems to have a decent following behind her. also good to see the indian F1 driver getting some points in the USA grand prix (even though only 6 drivers raced!)

Sania knocked out of women's doubles

London, June 21: Sania Mirza and Anna Chakvetadze of Russia lost in the first round of the women's doubles event of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tennis championships here today.

The Indo-Russian pair, which had reached the second round in the French Open, were defeated 6-2 6-1 by Alina Jidkova of Russia and Tatiana Perebiynis of Ukraine. (Agencies)
