Its often perceived among many, that left handed batsmen have some sort of in-built advantage. Now scientists at the University of New South Wales have proved it. Well sort of.

According to the UNSW team, only a quarter of the 177 players who batted in the 2003 World Cup were left-handers, yet together, they occupied almost half the available top 3 places in batting orders> there was also a correlation between the most successful teams and the number of left-handers they contained; For example, the aussys (who won it of course) sent out 4 lefties in its top six

The reason behind this is not because lefties are betters, that would be far too simple. It's all down to something called 'negative frequency dependent effet', which, broadly speaking, means that bowlers are less used to aiming at left-handers, and so their performance suffers as a result.

yeh - but thats kinda obvious

if you ask a dart player to aim at a board 1 m closer, i am sure he will screw it up.

at the end of the day, its practice. the better bowlers are the ones which actually are good at bowlign to both left and right handers.
