National cricket boards should advise the International Cricket Council that they are unable to accept further tours by Indian cricket teams or for their own teams to tour India. The reason would be that they are unable to accept the likely financial liabilities if the Indian team doesn't agree with some decision and returns home part way through a tour.

It is reported that ESPN were considering a $65 million action against the Austyralian cricket board if the Indian Cricket team returned home and the series was not completed.

No national cricket board could accept that sort of liability

Well I guess that explains why Harbajhan got off with a slap on the wrist then...?

So you mean a "White" judge and predominantly "White" ICC got under pressure from a bunch of "Brown" folks? Man, what is this world coming to?

I know, this was staggering.

I still don't know why Australia would be liable if India pulled the pin on the tour.

Apparently it was a condition of the tour or television rights contracts that they signed.

Also, the kiwi judge has since been reported as saying that he had no report of the number of past offences by the Indian playerand that if these had been placed before him by the Australians then he might have handed down a more severe penalty. I feel that the Aussie board didn't include these past offenses so that any penalty handed down wouldn't precipitate an Indian withdrawl from the series.

Exactly right. Which makes the whole thing even more embarrasing.

And even though some of the lower elements on this forum are slanging racial insults at each other, it is cricket that ultimately suffers in this fiasco.

I hate to see racism on the field. There is absolutely no need for it whatsover. But maybe given the circus by all parties concerned this week, they should change the rule. If there is reported racism on the field, both players should sit down at the end of the day with both captains and sort it out that way. That way, we have less chance of it turning into an international incident which can damage the game.

Very sensible suggestion! After all "Racism" is a serious charge and a match referee is hardly a competent authority to pass a judgment in such a serious matter based on sketchy or one-sided evidence. Can you imagine the Indian team walked in to the hearing by Procter without even a lawyer thinking that Sachin's word would be enough to win their case? The moment some real legal experts got involved, they discovered there was no real case not any evidence.

Please don't think I'm biased but looking at the video evidence, it was clear that Harbhajan was incited by a few Aussie players led by Symonds, and trapped into saying something that they could claim to be "racial villification". Unfortunately, they didn't consider the possibility of all this being examined by real lawyers and judges... Hence, the final outcome...
