Absolutely agree, although I think the no. of Aussies calling Murali a chucker, nigger and monkey would probably be similar to those in India calling Symonds monkey or maan ki.
The only difference from my perspective is that Murali is called a monkey because of his race whereas Symonds is called monkey because of his painted lips and his antics. You may argue exactly the opposite.
I do realize that both are wrong but who decides which one is worse?

curry_muncher I'm not having a go at you ,but I have never heard of anyone in Australia calling Murali any racist names ,chucker yes but if you can show me any evidence of this I will say no more about it.
Sorry mate, no hard evidence like the Mumbai crowd pics. Here're a couple of links though which show racism is still a big problem among Aussie Cricket Fans:

I read those articles and it seems like it was a very small minority with this behaviour.....I have been to the cricket in recent times and the crowd was well behaved. But at the same time I do not think this is acceptable if it is 1 or 50 000 people.
I also believe a bit of heckling from any crowd is ok or it would just take some of the fun out of going to the cricket ,as long as people don't step over the line with any unsavoury or racist remarks.
thank you for taking the time to show me these articles I was unaware of ,I dare say like alot of the Aussie community.
Exactly my friend. We have to recognize that there are good people and bad people in every society. We should not tar everyone with the same brush. I am sure no true Indian is proud of those images of some stupid people among the Mumbai crowd. I do hope there are more Aussies like yourself and oceanspirit who are aware and concerned about some bad elements in your own society.
