I understand it is some type of sport played in India, and possibly even here in America, but what are the basic rules of the game? Is it like football, soccer, hockey? I would just like a brief description. Thanks!

cricket can be a very complicated game, and i have found the easiest way is to find someone who knows how to play it to explain it whilst it is playing.
the very very basics of the game are as follows:
you have 2 teams of 11 players.
one team "bats" and the other team bowls, and after some time they swap over.
when you bat, you are protecting 3 stumps from the bowling team who bowl a cricket ball at them, and at the same time as protecting the stumps, you are trying to score "runs"
to score runs you need to hit the ball and run to the other end. you can score more runs if you hit the ball over the boudary of the playing field.
the aim of the game is to score more runs than the other team.
that really is the basics, but if you wish i can go into more detail once you digest the above. anyone else got any comments?
