i always buy my bats from India - a lot cheaper and much better. However I always make sure it is English willow.

Things to consider when buying a bat (or what I look at).

1. Look at the grain - a good bat with hardish wood has abotu 7-10 grains in it
2. look at the number of springs, usually 3, but 1 big one is also common
3. look at the bow - not too much of a banana tho!
4. the weight and where the middle is. If you don't like playing over the top, no point buying a bat with a low centred middle!!

its a lot harder, and tends to last more than one season!! Kashmir is a lot softer wood and i have never managed to get beyond 1.5 seasons with them. some people like softer bats as they tend to have a nice middle, but no point it falling apart on you after one season!

The most unbelievably brilliant bats are Fusion Sports. The website is:

http://www.iauctionshop.co.uk/cricket_bats.htm

All bats are custom made, you get to try before you buy, and they will make alterations or you don't have to buy. They have a unique Parallel Weighting system which means bats pick up 3 ozs lighter than they are, and you can see the results from the pictures. Brand new holographic stickers in red and blue make the bat look amazing, and they are used by loads of pros like Craig McMillain and Sarwan (but they are sponsored by larger companies). Go the website and call Bill (the bat maker), and trust me, you won't be disappointed. Laughing

Cricko is right about these bats. I have 2 Fusion Superbests and they are both huge for their weight Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Entirely custom made, lovely pickups and if I severely crack one, Bill will repair it for me free of charge. They are now also making equipment which I am keen to purchase. If you want to take a look, the new website is

www.fusioncricket.co.uk

Take a look around, real quality Wink

nah thats wrong. English willow is the softest willow you can get, its a soft fibrous reed and the advantage of this is that knocking in will make the surface very hard whereas knocking in a kashmir willow bat wont make the surface any harder, thats why u dont need to knock in kashmir willow bats - so you are half right. A fully knocked in english willow bat has a harder surface than a kashmir willow bat, but in its raw form, english willow is much softer.

Your right about the second part, a lot of the expensive bats are made from very soft, high grain willow. They hit beautifully for the first season, but then they start to open up grain vertically (which is a good sign actually, coz the bat is reaching maturity)...
