Sure, you have heard of many in-form cricketers being left out from the selected squad. But at one time or other most of them came back to the side. (Like Simon Katich after the Indian tour) But the story is slightly different here. There was this Indian opening batsman, who was in brilliant form in the last test series he played, but was never selected to play for India again - Madhav Apte (commonly known as ML Apte)

He was first selected to play Pakistan in 1952-53. He scored 82 runs at 41.00 in the three innings he played. He was then selected to play the West Indies in West Indies. He played in all the five test matches there and amassed 460 runs at 51.11 with three 50's and a hundred, a match saving 163* being his best. At the end of that tour he was the second leading run getter for India behind Polly Umrigar, in a team that consisted of quality batsmen in the likes of Pankaj Roy, Vinoo Mankad, Vijay Hazare and Vijay Manjrekar. After that series, he was never selected to play for India again! Why? The question remains as such even today. Another scapegoat, created by the Indian cricket officials.
